This happens because the fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old, degraded cell. When a new cell with full capacity is installed, the IC's state-of-charge map no longer matches the actual voltage curve. The tablet interprets a voltage drop under combined display and Wi-Fi load as a critically low charge — and shuts down. One complete discharge-to-shutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% realigns the gauge. After that cycle, reported percentage tracks actual cell voltage correctly.
Android reporting wrong battery percentage after the swap
The percentage shown in Android pulls from the fuel gauge IC, not the cell directly. That IC holds learned data from the original battery — cell impedance, capacity endpoints, and voltage-to-percentage mapping. A new cell has different characteristics, so the old data produces inaccurate readings right away. Drain the tablet fully until it powers off on its own, then charge to 100% without interruption. That recalibration cycle writes fresh endpoint data to the gauge and corrects the display.
