Why the OT-4030 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The OT-4030 uses a fuel gauge IC that builds its percentage model from the discharge curve of the cell it learned on — typically the original factory cell. When a new cell goes in, the stored curve no longer matches the actual cell chemistry and capacity. The gauge reports percentages based on outdated reference data, so the number on screen can be off by 10–20%. One full uninterrupted discharge-to-shutdown followed by a full charge resets the coulomb counter and forces the IC to re-learn the new cell's curve.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet recalibrated and the cell voltage drops below the modem's minimum operating voltage while the screen still shows 20–30% remaining. The modem draws a short high-current burst during a call or data event, the cell voltage sags, and the phone shuts off to protect the hardware. The percentage shown at shutdown is meaningless until recalibration is complete. Run the full discharge-recharge cycle described above — after that cycle, the gauge will cut off closer to the real 3.2–3.3V floor.
