The Kindle Fire HD 8 charge IC requires at least one completed charge cycle before it confirms the new cell's internal resistance and accepts higher charge rates. Immediately after installation, the charger may negotiate down to standard 5V/1A as a safety measure. Plug in the original Amazon charger — third-party adapters can stall USB negotiation entirely — and let the first cycle complete without interruption. After that cycle, fast charging resumes at the rated input.
