This is a 7.4V, 5200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the American DJ PinPoint Gobo and PinPoint Gobo Color moving head fixtures. It powers the gobo projection and motorised positioning system. When the original cell degrades, pan and tilt response slows before the battery indicator registers low — swapping this unit restores full fixture performance.
- PinPoint Gobo and Gobo Color compatibility: Both models share the same Z-PIB377 battery bay, connector pinout, and 7.4V BMS handshake. One battery covers both fixtures without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the fixture's LED driver and motor control board. The BMS held stable output under simultaneous gobo rotation and LED demand, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage threshold without triggering a false fault.
- Storage charge for touring rigs: If this fixture is cased between events for more than two weeks, discharge to approximately 50% before storage. Storing fully charged Li-ion cells at elevated road-case temperatures accelerates capacity fade — a particular issue in this 5200mAh cell format.
Gobo motor stutter and pan drift as the cell ages
The PinPoint Gobo's stepper motor draws current in short, high-amplitude pulses during repositioning. As the original Li-ion cell ages and internal resistance rises, each pulse causes a brief voltage sag. The fixture's motor controller reads this as an undervoltage event and reduces step rate — appearing as sluggish or stuttering gobo movement. A fresh cell with low internal resistance eliminates the sag and restores accurate positioning at full speed.
Fixture shows fault or ignores battery after sitting unused
Li-ion cells left discharged for extended periods can drop below the ballast acceptance threshold — typically around 6V for a 7.4V pack. When this happens, the fixture either displays a fault code or simply fails to power on, even with what appears to be a charged battery. The fix is to connect the battery to a compatible charger and allow a trickle pre-charge cycle to bring the cell above the acceptance floor before reinserting it into the fixture. If the cell does not respond to pre-charge within 30 minutes, the cell is unrecoverable and needs replacement.
