About this replacement
American DJ WiFLY CHAMELEON — 22.2V Li-ion Replacement Battery (Z-WIB268)
This is a 22.2V 5200mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the American DJ WiFLY CHAMELEON wireless LED fixture. It slots directly into the fixture to restore cordless operation for color-changing LED performances and events. Part number Z-WIB268 matches the OEM specification.
- WiFLY CHAMELEON platform fit: The CHAMELEON's LED driver runs a constant-current circuit calibrated to the 22.2V six-cell Li-ion rail. Dropping to a different cell count or voltage shifts the driver's regulation point and causes premature dimming or color temperature drift at the high end of the output range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell pack through charge and discharge cycles on the CHAMELEON fixture. The BMS held the 22.2V nominal rail steady across the LED driver's constant-current demand, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff without triggering a fixture fault code.
- Pre-event storage protocol: Store this battery at approximately 50% state of charge if the fixture will sit unused for more than two weeks. Full-charge storage at venue or road-case temperatures accelerates capacity fade in the high-capacity cells used here — partial charge keeps cell voltage in the stable mid-range.
WiFLY CHAMELEON dimming before the battery indicator hits low
The CHAMELEON's LED driver pulls constant current regardless of battery state, so the pack voltage sags under load before the indicator circuit registers a low reading. Aged or deeply cycled cells have higher internal resistance, which causes this voltage sag to appear earlier in the discharge curve. A fresh Z-WIB268 pack with low internal resistance keeps the voltage rail above the driver's regulation threshold for a much longer portion of the cycle. If early dimming persists after fitting a new battery, check that the battery contacts on the fixture are clean and making full contact.
Battery not accepted by the fixture after sitting in storage
When a Li-ion pack self-discharges below the fixture's BMS acceptance threshold during long storage, the CHAMELEON will not power on or will show no battery recognition. This threshold sits around 2.5V per cell — at six cells, that is roughly 15V at the pack terminals. Connect the battery to the OEM charger and allow a trickle pre-charge cycle to bring each cell back above the minimum acceptance voltage. Once the charger confirms a normal charge state, refit the pack and the fixture should respond at power-on.
