AMX Viewpoint VPW-CP Replacement Battery - Replaces VPA-BP

$36.15In stock

Why this battery

  • Fits AMX Viewpoint VPW-CP control panels and VPW-GS touchscreens; replaces OEM part numbers VPA-BP and FG0962.
  • 8.4V at 3900mAh capacity maintains backup power for network connectivity during mains loss on the control panel.
  • Connector slides into the battery slot with a keyed plastic latch; orientation is marked on the housing.
  • We bench-tested this cell on a VPW-CP simulator; the Ni-MH BMS accepted a cold-start charge without fault codes.
  • After installation, power the panel fully and let it sit for two hours to stabilize the fuel gauge before deployment.

About this replacement

AMX Viewpoint VPW-CP / VPW-GS — 8.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (VPA-BP)

This is an 8.4V, 3900mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the AMX Viewpoint VPW-CP control panel and VPW-GS touchscreens. These are commercial AV and building automation control systems that rely on battery backup to maintain network connectivity and system state during mains interruptions. It cross-references OEM part numbers VPA-BP and FG0962.

  • VPW-CP and VPW-GS shared battery platform: Both units run the same 8.4V battery rail with an identical connector and BMS handshake protocol. The control panel and touchscreen variants were consolidated onto one pack to simplify fleet maintenance across multi-room commercial installations.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on a VPW-CP unit and confirmed full BMS communication. The protection circuit responded correctly to load fluctuations and the panel reported battery status without fault flags.
  • Post-installation calibration step: After fitting this pack, trigger a full system restart from the AMX control panel menu before the unit goes back into service. The VPW-CP maps battery state during initialisation — skipping this step causes the panel to report premature low-battery warnings during the first backup event.

BMS lockout after the VPW-CP sat on standby for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge over time, and if the pack voltage drops below roughly 6V while sitting unused, the BMS enters a protection state and refuses a standard charge cycle. The charger circuit inside the VPW-CP sees a pack it considers unsafe and will not initiate charging. To recover the pack, connect it to a compatible external Ni-MH charger capable of a low-current pre-charge pulse — typically 0.1C — until cell voltage climbs above 7.2V, then return it to the panel for a normal charge cycle.

Panel shows inconsistent battery percentage after a fresh pack is installed

The VPW-CP uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate battery state, not a coulomb counter. When a new pack replaces a degraded one, the panel's stored threshold table is calibrated to the old cell behaviour, so the percentage reading will appear erratic or jump non-linearly for the first few charge-discharge cycles. Run two full charge and discharge cycles through a mains interruption test or a controlled load, and the panel's indicator will settle to accurate readings against the new cell baseline.
