Appareo Stratus 2 / 2S / 3 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (153010-000038)
This 3.7V 5300mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Appareo Stratus 2, Stratus 2S, and Stratus 3 portable ADS-B receivers. These units deliver real-time weather, traffic, and terrain data to pilots via a connected tablet or EFB app. Fit the correct cell and the Stratus resumes normal ADS-B and GPS operation without configuration changes.
- Stratus 2, 2S, and 3 compatibility: All three models share the same physical cell format, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — the 3.7V voltage rail and 5300mAh capacity requirement are identical across the series, so one cell covers all three variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on a Stratus 2 unit. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and low-voltage cutoff engaged at the expected threshold without premature shutdown.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after power interruption: After fitting this cell, power the Stratus fully on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before your first flight. A full power removal clears the almanac cache, so the first fix after swap takes 5–10 minutes — subsequent warm starts return to under a minute.
Stratus shutting off without warning at low battery
The Stratus battery indicator reads remaining charge from a voltage curve stored in firmware. When a degraded or replaced cell has a slightly different discharge curve, the firmware can misread remaining capacity and cross the cutoff threshold before the visual warning triggers. This shows up as a sudden shutdown with the indicator still showing one bar. After fitting a new cell, run two full charge-to-discharge cycles to let the firmware re-calibrate its voltage-to-capacity mapping. If the unit still shuts off early, confirm resting voltage at full charge reads 4.18–4.20V before flight.
Saved routes and flight plan data missing after battery swap
The Stratus 2 series stores flight-relevant data on its paired EFB app — not in onboard battery-backed RAM — so most route and airspace data survives a full power removal. However, device pairing credentials, custom alert thresholds, and calibration offsets are held in onboard non-volatile memory that can reset during a deep-discharge event before the swap. If settings are missing after fitting the new cell, reconnect to your EFB app via Bluetooth and step through the Stratus setup wizard to restore pairing and re-enter any custom alert values.
