Apple iPad A1219 / A1337 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (616-0478)
This 3.7V, 5400mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the original power cell in first-generation Apple iPad tablets. - Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on an A1337 board. The BMS accepted the new cell on first connection, completed a full charge without thermal fault, and held stable voltage across screen-on and Wi-Fi active states.
- Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After installation, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the fuel gauge IC to recalibrate against the new cell's actual capacity curve and corrects the inaccurate percentage readings that appear immediately after a battery swap.
iPad shutting down at 15–25% remaining after battery replacement
The original fuel gauge IC stores a learned capacity map from the old, degraded cell. When a new cell goes in, that map no longer matches actual cell chemistry. At around 3.6–3.7V, the iPad's power management chip sees a steep voltage drop under the combined load of the display and Wi-Fi radio. It reads this as imminent cutoff and shuts down — even though usable capacity remains. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% rewrites the fuel gauge baseline. After that cycle, shutdowns at 15–25% stop.
Fast charging not resuming after battery swap on first-gen iPad
The charge IC negotiates current acceptance with the battery's BMS on the first recognised charge cycle. Until that handshake completes, the iPad defaults to a lower input current as a precaution. This shows up as a slower-than-expected charge rate immediately after installation. Connect the iPad to its original 10W USB power adapter and let it complete one full charge from below 10% to 100% without interruption. After that cycle, normal charge rate resumes.
