The fuel gauge IC on the A2141 logic board stores a discharge curve mapped to the old cell's impedance profile. When the SMC reads a voltage drop it associates with near-empty on the old cell, it triggers an immediate shutdown — even though the new cell still has usable capacity. Running two or three full discharge-to-hibernate cycles trains the fuel gauge IC against the new cell's actual curve. System Information shows wrong Wh rating after replacement
The Wh figure displayed in System Information is pulled from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's BMS, not calculated live from voltage and capacity. If the EEPROM on the replacement cell is programmed to a slightly different rated value than Apple's original, macOS will display that number verbatim — even if the cell's actual chemistry matches the 98.83Wh spec. This is a data field mismatch, not a capacity fault. To verify real capacity, run a full discharge cycle and check the cycle count and full charge capacity fields in a tool like coconutBattery — those figures reflect actual measured performance, not EEPROM declarations.
