This is a 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-Polymer battery for the Archos 5 60GB portable media player. It replaces OEM part M02864T — the original flat cell that sits behind the touchscreen display assembly. Fits the 60GB hard drive variant of the Archos 5 series.
- Archos 5 60GB fit: The 60GB model uses a physically larger cell cavity than the flash-storage variants. This 96.50 × 74.00 × 4.00mm pouch cell matches that cavity and the original connector pinout, so the device firmware reads charge state correctly without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Archos 5 charging circuit and confirmed the BMS accepts charge from 0% without triggering a protection lockout. Charge termination tripped cleanly at 4.2V, with no thermal event during the constant-current phase.
- Post-swap power-on procedure: If the player sits unused for weeks after the swap, connect the charger and leave it plugged in for at least 30 minutes before pressing the power button. The Archos 5 enters a deep-discharge protection state that blocks normal startup until the cell reaches a minimum threshold voltage.
Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the Archos 5
After fitting a new cell, the Archos 5 firmware often displays erratic percentage readings — jumping from 80% to 20% mid-session, or bouncing at the top of the range. The onboard fuel gauge uses stored voltage-to-capacity curves calibrated to the old, degraded cell. A fresh cell with a steeper discharge curve confuses those thresholds. Run the player down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 4.2V. One full cycle is usually enough for the indicator to stabilise.
Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty
The Archos 5's audio amplifier draws a short current spike at the end of a track transition. Near the bottom of the discharge curve — typically below 3.5V — cell impedance rises enough that this spike causes a brief voltage sag. The BMS reads that dip as an undervoltage fault and shuts the device down, even if the indicator still shows a few percent remaining. This is a cell chemistry behaviour, not a firmware bug. If it happens consistently, the cell is at end of life; a fresh 2600mAh cell restores the full usable range.
