Why the 50e Neon reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The 50e Neon uses a fuel gauge IC that stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the actual voltage-to-capacity relationship of the replacement. The gauge reads voltage and maps it against the old curve, so it reports incorrect percentages — often optimistic above 50% and pessimistic below 30%. One full discharge-charge cycle lets the coulomb counter reset and build a new curve against the replacement cell. After that cycle, percentage readings stabilise.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under load — screen backlight, LTE modem, and GPS firing simultaneously pull enough current to push the cell below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. On a fresh cell, this is almost always a fuel gauge calibration issue rather than a faulty battery. Run one full discharge cycle and let the phone shut down naturally at 0%. After recharging fully, the gauge recalibrates and the premature shutdowns stop. If shutdown persists past three full cycles, check that the cell connector is fully seated — an intermittent contact causes identical voltage sag symptoms.
