Why the Archos 53 Platinum reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The fuel gauge IC in the 53 Platinum stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, that stored curve no longer matches the new cell's voltage profile. The IC reads voltage against the old curve and reports a percentage that can be off by 15–25%. One complete discharge below 10% followed by a full uninterrupted charge resets the coulomb counter and retrains the curve to the replacement cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% remaining on the Archos 53 Platinum
This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under load — typically when the modem transmits or the screen brightness peaks — before the fuel gauge reads zero. The cell hits the BMS low-voltage cutoff threshold (around 3.0V per cell) even though the displayed percentage still looks safe. A degraded or uncalibrated cell is the usual cause.
