Archos Gmini 220 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This 3.7V 1400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the Archos Gmini 220 portable media player. The Gmini 220 is a compact mid-2000s digital audio and video player. When the original battery no longer holds a charge, this cell restores full playback capability.
- Gmini 220 platform fit: The Gmini 220 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion architecture with a fixed connector footprint. This cell matches that voltage rail and the physical 60.33 × 48.74 × 5.15mm envelope, so it seats correctly without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Gmini 220 platform. The BMS accepted charge current normally, voltage held steady through mid-discharge, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
- Post-swap charge cycle: After fitting a new cell, run a full charge to 100% before extended playback. Media players that have sat unused often enter a deep discharge protection state — the device may show no response for the first 15–20 minutes on the charger before charge current begins flowing normally.
Gmini 220 not waking after extended storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge over time. If the Gmini 220 has been stored for months, the cell voltage may have dropped below the BMS's minimum threshold — typically around 2.5V — causing the protection circuit to lock out charge input. The device appears completely dead even when plugged in. Connect the charger and leave it for 30 minutes before attempting to power on; trickle current will slowly bring the cell voltage back above the recovery threshold and re-enable normal charging.
Battery percentage jumping erratically after cell swap
The Gmini 220 estimates remaining charge by reading cell voltage against a stored threshold table calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell with a slightly different internal resistance will produce voltage readings that don't match those thresholds, causing the percentage indicator to jump or misread. This settles after two or three full charge and discharge cycles. Let the device discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge fully to 4.2V — repeat twice and the indicator will stabilise.
