Archos Gmini XS200 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This is a 3.7V 1400mAh Li-ion battery for the Archos Gmini XS200, XS202, XS202s, and XS18s portable media players. These mid-2000s players are still in circulation, but their original cells have long since degraded past useful capacity. This replacement restores the unit to full operating voltage so audio and video playback functions normally again.

- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on Gmini XS200 hardware. The BMS accepted charge current immediately from a healthy state and stepped through low-voltage trickle correctly when the cell was brought in at a depleted starting voltage.
- Post-swap initialisation on the Gmini XS200: After fitting a new cell, connect the charger before attempting to power on. Units that have sat unused will flag a protection state and refuse to boot until the cell receives an initial trickle charge — typically 20 to 30 minutes on the charger first.
Battery percentage jumping erratically after cell swap
The Gmini XS200 uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate remaining charge — there is no coulomb counter in the firmware. A new cell has a different discharge curve than the worn cell it replaced, so the indicator reads incorrectly for the first few full cycles. Run three complete charge-to-cutoff cycles without interrupting playback. After that, the voltage thresholds will align with the new cell's curve and the percentage display will stabilise.
Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty
The audio amplifier in the XS200 draws a spike of current during playback that the cell cannot sustain once it drops below roughly 3.5V. The player cuts out even though the indicator still shows a remaining charge. This is voltage sag under load — not a firmware fault. The replacement cell's fresh capacity means the sag point arrives much later in the discharge cycle, so playback continues further into the charge before cutting out. If it still cuts early after fitting this cell, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a loose contact increases internal resistance and worsens sag.
