Why Chrome OS reports poor battery health immediately after a swap
The Asus embedded controller stores charge cycle count and health data in EEPROM on the battery's protection circuit. When a new cell arrives, that EEPROM carries factory defaults that don't match the host system's learned parameters. Chrome OS reads those values and flags the battery as degraded before a single cycle runs. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the learn cycle to overwrite stale EEPROM data with real figures from the new cell.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The IC inherited calibration data from the old, degraded cell, so it misreads the voltage cliff and triggers a low-battery shutdown well before the cell is empty. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles without interrupting. After the third cycle the fuel gauge re-maps the curve to the new cell and the shutdown threshold drops back to the correct level near 5–8% charge remaining.
