When the display backlight and WiFi radio draw current simultaneously, the combined load causes a sharper voltage sag than the fuel gauge IC anticipates. The BMS sees the cell voltage drop below the protection threshold and cuts power before the reported percentage reaches zero. This is a fuel gauge calibration problem, not a faulty battery. One full discharge-to-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the calibration curve — after that, the shutdown point should track accurately below 5%.
Battery percentage jumping or freezing after installation
The ME172's fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. A new cell with a different internal resistance profile causes the IC to report incoherent state-of-charge values — jumps of 10–20% or a percentage that stays frozen for extended periods are both symptoms of this mismatch. The fix is a single recalibration cycle: discharge fully until the tablet shuts itself off, then charge to 100% without interruption. After one complete cycle, the IC maps the new cell's voltage curve and percentage reporting stabilises.
