Asus N46 / N46V Series — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (A31-N56)
This is a 10.8V, 4400mAh (47.52Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Asus N46 series notebook. It fits the N46, N46V, N46VJ, and N46VM among other models in the same family. It replaces OEM part numbers A31-N56, A32-N56, and A33-N56.

Why the N46 BIOS flags a new battery as poor health immediately after installation
The N46 embedded controller reads EEPROM data stored on the old cell and compares it against the new one. A fresh cell has no charge history, so the EC interprets the mismatch as a degraded unit. This triggers the health warning before the battery has run a single cycle. One complete discharge-to-hibernate followed by a full uninterrupted charge gives the EC enough data to recalibrate and clear the flag.
N46 shutting down at 20–30% remaining after a battery swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC still has calibration data from the old, worn cell. It maps the new cell's voltage curve incorrectly, so the remaining-charge estimate drops off a cliff under CPU and display load. The laptop hits what it thinks is 0% well before the cell is actually empty. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate cycles and the gauge IC will remap to the new cell's actual voltage curve — shutdowns should stop occurring above 10%.
