BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after installation
The BIOS reads health data stored in the old cell's EEPROM, and that data does not automatically update when a new cell is fitted. The new cell has no charge history, so the firmware flags it as degraded until a learn cycle writes fresh data. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. After that cycle, the health status clears on most X450 and A450 units.
Laptop shuts down at 20–30% charge remaining
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual discharge curve. The gauge is still using data from the degraded original cell, so the voltage cliff appears earlier than expected. Under combined CPU and display load, the cell voltage drops faster than the stale calibration predicts, triggering an emergency shutdown. Complete two full discharge-to-hibernate and charge-to-100% cycles — the gauge recalibrates and the cutoff point shifts back toward 5–8% where it belongs.
