About this replacement
Asus ZenFone 5 2018 — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (0B200-02890100)
This 3.85V, 3200mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Asus ZenFone 5 2018 and ZenFone 5 2018 Dual SIM variants, including the ZE620KL. It matches OEM part numbers 0B200-02890100 and C11P1708 and fits the physical cavity at 75.45 × 64.85 × 3.65mm.
- ZenFone 5 2018 series compatibility: The ZE620KL, standard, and Dual SIM TD-LTE models all share the same 3.85V voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one cell covers all five variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge and discharge cycles on the ZE620KL platform. The BMS accepted charging without fault codes on the first cycle, and cell voltage held within spec across modem-active and display-on load states.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging pushes into an uncalibrated state.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the ZenFone 5 after a cell swap
This happens because the fuel gauge IC still holds the old cell's discharge curve in memory. When the new cell hits its voltage cliff under modem or display load, the phone shuts down even though the percentage counter reads higher. The fix is one full uninterrupted discharge down to automatic shutdown, followed by a full charge with the screen off. After that cycle the coulomb counter resets to the new cell's actual capacity curve.
USB-PD fast charge not triggering after replacement
On the first cycle after a cell swap, the ZenFone 5 charge IC sometimes refuses the fast-charge handshake because the BMS has not yet confirmed a valid cell profile. The phone defaults to standard 5V charging as a safety fallback. Completing that first full slow charge cycle clears the flag. After the cycle finishes, fast charging re-engages normally on subsequent plugs.
