The NE14A2 embedded controller reads health data from the battery's EEPROM on first boot after installation. That EEPROM data reflects the new cell's factory state, which the EC hasn't learned yet — so it flags health as poor or unknown. This isn't a fault with the replacement cell. Running a full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% gives the EC one complete learn cycle and clears the warning. If the health flag persists after two full cycles, check that the battery connector is fully seated.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The gauge reads a percentage based on the old cell's discharge profile, so it loses accuracy near the low end — the laptop hits the cell's real voltage floor before the OS expects it. The fix is two full calibration cycles: discharge to hibernate-cutoff each time, then charge to 100% without interruption. After the second cycle, the fuel gauge IC maps the new curve and the shutdown-at-30% behaviour stops. Target cell voltage at hibernate cutoff is approximately 6.0V.
