At low state of charge, the Traffic Assist 7928 reduces power to the GPS receiver module to extend remaining battery life. Lower receiver power means reduced signal sensitivity, which can cause the position fix to wander or lose lock in areas with marginal signal — underground car parks, dense urban canyons, or tree cover. This is a firmware-level power management decision, not a fault with the antenna. Keeping the battery above roughly 3.6V under load keeps the receiver running at full sensitivity.
Traffic Assist 7928 shutting off with no low-battery warning
After fitting a new cell, the device's fuel gauge is uncalibrated — it no longer has accurate data on the cell's actual discharge curve. The on-screen battery indicator can show two or three bars right up until the protection circuit cuts off at the low-voltage threshold, giving no useful warning. Running two full charge-to-discharge cycles calibrates the gauge so the warning appears at the correct point. Charge to 100%, navigate until the unit shuts itself off, then repeat once more.
