Biocare IE12 / IE12A — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYLB-1596)
This 14.8V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the HYLB-1596 cell in the Biocare IE12 and IE12A patient monitors. It fits both model variants and matches the original voltage and capacity specifications. Swap it in when the OEM cell can no longer hold charge through a clinical shift.
- IE12 and IE12A platform fit: Both models share the same 14.8V four-cell Li-ion architecture, the same HYLB-1596 connector footprint, and the same BMS communication protocol — one cell covers both variants without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the IE12 charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell, completed charge termination correctly, and reported accurate state-of-charge to the device firmware.
- Power-on self-test handling: After installation, let the device complete its full startup sequence without interruption. The IE12 runs a BMS verification check at boot — cutting power mid-sequence causes a latching battery fault that will not clear until the next complete reboot.
Device not completing boot sequence on a new IE12 battery
The IE12 BMS performs a cell chemistry check during the POST sequence. A new cell that has partially self-discharged in storage may report a state-of-charge below the device's minimum boot threshold, causing the sequence to stall or abort. This is not a faulty battery — it is a threshold mismatch between a resting new cell and the OEM boot floor. Charge the replacement fully before the first installation; the device expects to see at least 16.4V at the pack terminals to proceed past self-test.
IE12 alarming low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The IE12 alarm threshold is calibrated against a characterised cell profile. A brand-new cell has not yet completed a learn cycle, so the BMS cannot accurately map its discharge curve — it trips the low-battery alarm early as a safety precaution. Run one full charge-to-discharge cycle on the device before clinical use. After that first cycle, the BMS recalibrates its fuel gauge and the alarm behaviour normalises to match the actual 5200mAh capacity.
