Why the BLT2012 throws a battery fault on a fully charged new cell
The BLT2012 BMS uses a learned capacity threshold calibrated to the OEM cell's charge profile. A fresh replacement cell has not yet established its baseline with the device's charge IC, so the BMS flags it as below threshold even when the cell reads full voltage. This is not a fault with the cell — it clears after one complete charge-discharge cycle. Run one full cycle before clinical deployment to let the BMS write a new capacity baseline.
BLT2012 will not power on after the battery has been in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A battery that has sat in storage for several months can drop below the BLT2012 BMS recovery threshold — typically around 20V for a 24V Ni-MH pack — and the device will not boot. Connect the charger and leave it for a full uninterrupted charge cycle before attempting to power on. If the charge indicator does not move within 30 minutes, the BMS may need a recovery charge — check that the charger output is present at the connector before replacing the cell.
