Bissell 3789 / Cleanview XR Series — 24V Li-ion Replacement Battery (1638019)
This is a 24V, 2500mAh (60Wh) Li-ion battery pack for the Bissell 3789, 3797W, 3789U, and Cleanview XR Stick Vacuum series. It replaces OEM part numbers 1638019 and 1638764. The pack fits the standard dock-charge platform shared across these models.
- 3789 and Cleanview XR platform fit: These models share a 24V bus, the same connector housing, and an identical BMS handshake protocol. The battery slot, latch geometry, and charge-contact pin spacing are consistent across the 3789, 3797W, and 3789U variants.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through load and recharge sequences on the 3789 motor platform. The BMS held cutoff at the correct undervoltage threshold and accepted charge termination from the OEM dock without fault codes.
- Dock charging habit on the Cleanview XR: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock permanently. Continuous trickle charging on this platform accelerates capacity fade faster than normal cycling. Charge to full, then remove the battery from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the 3789
The 3789 motor draws significantly more current when the filter is partially blocked. That elevated draw causes voltage sag at the cell level, which the BMS reads as low charge even when capacity remains. The result is reduced motor speed and weaker suction well before the indicator signals a low battery. Clean or replace the filter first — if suction recovers immediately, the battery was not the cause.
Motor cutting out mid-clean and then recovering after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a depleted battery. When suction is sustained against a blockage or heavily soiled carpet, current spikes past the BMS protection threshold and the pack shuts output to protect the cells. After a brief rest, the BMS resets and the motor restarts. Clear any blockage in the brush roll or hose, then check that pack voltage reads at or above 21V before resuming — anything below that at rest means the cells are genuinely low.
