Cordless vacuum losing suction before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens when the motor draws more current than the rated load — usually because the filter is partially blocked. The BMS reads the elevated current draw as a low-voltage event and begins throttling power to protect the cell before the indicator reflects actual charge state. The vacuum feels flat well before the battery is genuinely depleted. Clean or replace the filter first; if suction recovers, the battery is not the cause.
Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a few seconds
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failed battery. When the motor fights sustained restricted airflow — a blocked nozzle, a clogged filter, or heavy carpet pile — current spikes above the BMS threshold and the pack cuts output. The trip resets automatically once load drops. If this happens repeatedly, check the filter and nozzle before concluding the battery is faulty. A clean airflow path keeps motor draw within the BMS's rated window, around 18V nominal under load.
