A new or stored Ni-MH pack can sit below the charger's acceptance voltage threshold if cells have self-discharged during shipping or storage. The charger detects an unexpected voltage profile and holds in a standby state instead of entering the bulk charge phase. Place the pack on the charger and leave it undisturbed for 20 to 30 minutes — the charger's trickle pre-charge circuit will bring cells up to 9.6V, at which point the standard charge cycle initiates. If the light does not change after 45 minutes, check the contact pins on the vacuum's battery bay for oxidation and clean with a dry cloth.
