- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran C986241250L replacements through full charge and discharge cycles on the S610 platform. The BMS handshake completed on first cycle, charge IC accepted the cell without error flags, and the fuel gauge IC began tracking the new discharge curve immediately.
- First-cycle fast charge protocol: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the BLU Studio Mega after a cell swap
This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity defect. When the modem transmits or the display brightness spikes, current draw pulls the cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold — even though the fuel gauge still reads 20–30%. The fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old cell's internal resistance curve and cannot accurately predict where the new cell's voltage will drop under load. One full discharge-charge cycle with fast charging off resets the coulomb counter and maps the new curve. After that cycle, the reported percentage and actual cutoff voltage align correctly.
BLU phone won't power on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-polymer cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent damage and blocks normal power-on. Connect the phone to a wall charger — not a USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until voltage recovers above the BMS re-enable threshold, typically around 2.9V, at which point the phone will boot normally.
