This is a 20.4V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Bosch BBH22042 cordless hand-held vacuum cleaner and its close variants, including the BBH22041, BBH22042/01, and BBH22041/01. It replaces OEM part numbers VXAS011V20, 11008882, 11008881, and 12039547. When the original cell stops holding a charge, this unit restores the vacuum to full operating condition.
- BBH22041 and BBH22042 platform fit: These models share the same 20.4V cell format, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The battery slots directly into both the /01 and base variants without modification — the BMS handshake is identical across this model range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the BBH22042 platform. The BMS engaged correctly at both low-voltage cutoff and full-charge termination, and the vacuum motor responded normally across suction levels without triggering overcurrent protection under standard load.
- Dock charging behaviour on this vacuum: Do not leave the BBH22042 sitting on its charging dock permanently. Ni-MH cells in cordless vacuums develop capacity fade significantly faster under continuous trickle charge than under charge-only-when-depleted use. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low
This happens because the BBH22042 motor draws substantially more current when airflow is restricted — a partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling the cell voltage down faster than the indicator circuit expects. The battery indicator reads state of charge, not motor load, so it can still show mid-range while the cell is already sagging under the extra draw. The result is weak suction with no low-battery warning. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest — if suction recovers, the cell is fine and the filter was the cause.
Motor cuts out mid-use and then restarts after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a failed battery. When the vacuum encounters sustained restricted suction — a blockage, a heavily loaded filter, or prolonged carpet use — the motor's current draw spikes past the BMS threshold, and the battery cuts power to protect the cell. After a brief pause the BMS resets and the vacuum powers back on. Clear any blockage, clean the filter, and resume use. If the cutout continues even with a clean filter and clear airflow, measure resting voltage — a cell that won't hold above 18V under load needs replacement.
