Why the Defigard 3002 flags a battery fault on the first charge cycle
The Defigard 3002 charge IC applies a conservative acceptance threshold calibrated to an aged OEM cell. A fresh Ni-MH pack presents a slightly different internal resistance profile on the first charge, which the IC can misread as a fault condition. This is not a defective battery. Run one complete charge-to-discharge cycle before relying on the battery indicator reading. After that cycle, the charge IC recalibrates its internal reference and reads accurately.
Charge indicator stalls below 100% on first charge
On a fresh Ni-MH cell, the charge termination logic on the Defiscope DS and Defigard 3002 can trigger early because the delta-V slope of a new pack differs from a broken-in one. The charger reads the inflection point as full-charge termination before the pack is truly at capacity. Remove the battery, wait two minutes, and re-seat it to restart the charge cycle. After one full charge-discharge cycle, the termination voltage aligns correctly and the indicator will reach 100%.
