This 3.8V, 2400mAh Li-Polymer battery replaces the original pack in the Cisco IP Phone 8821 wireless handset. It restores cordless operation for the 8800 series handset used in office DECT environments. Capacity figure is taken directly from the product specification — 9.12Wh total energy.

- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the 8821 charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell, held charge correctly, and did not trigger a low-voltage lockout on the handset display.
- First-charge protocol for the 8821: Place the handset in the Cisco desk base immediately after fitting the new pack. Leave it charging without interruption until the charge indicator clears — a partial first charge on Li-Polymer in DECT handsets causes the BMS to register a lower full-charge ceiling, which reduces usable capacity from the first cycle onward.
Why the 8821 shows a charging error after a battery swap
The 8821 base station checks incoming cell voltage before starting the charge cycle. A new Li-Polymer pack shipped in storage mode can sit below the handset's acceptance threshold — typically around 3.0V. When the base reads that voltage, it flags an error rather than charging. The fix is to briefly connect the handset to a USB power source directly, which wakes the cell above the threshold. Once the pack reads above 3.2V, place it in the base and the charge cycle starts normally.
Talk time shorter than expected after fitting the replacement pack
A new Li-Polymer cell does not always deliver its rated 2400mAh on the first discharge cycle. The BMS calibrates its capacity estimate over the first two to three full charge-discharge cycles. If talk time seems short immediately after installation, run the handset through two complete cycles — full charge, full discharge to auto-off — before judging the pack. After cycle three, the BMS capacity reading stabilises and the handset should reflect the full 9.12Wh energy rating.
