It replaces OEM part numbers including 6-87-M720S-4M4, M720BAT-2, M720BAT-4, and M720SBAT-4, among others. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or when the BIOS flags battery health as degraded.

Why the M72 BIOS reports poor battery health after a cell swap
The M72 BIOS reads health data stored in the original cell's EEPROM. When a new cell goes in, that EEPROM data is either absent or mismatched, so the BIOS flags the battery as unknown or degraded even though the cell is fresh. This is a data mismatch, not a hardware fault. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate then a complete uninterrupted charge to 100%, and the BIOS will recalibrate against the new cell's actual parameters.
M72 shutting down at 20–30% charge remaining
This symptom points to a voltage cliff in a degraded original cell — under combined CPU and display load, internal resistance climbs and terminal voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel gauge reaches zero. The OS reads an inaccurate state-of-charge right up until the cell can no longer sustain voltage, then the system cuts immediately. Fitting a fresh cell with lower internal resistance resolves the abrupt shutdown. After installation, confirm the cell holds above 14.0V under load before trusting the fuel gauge readout.
