Why the Cobra panel keeps reporting low battery after a fresh cell swap
Cobra alarm panels poll the remote battery status on a timed cycle, not in real time. A new Ni-MH cell installed below full charge will still report low until it reaches the panel's acceptance threshold — typically around 7.0V under load. The panel BMS needs 24 to 48 hours on trickle charge before it clears the low battery flag. Running a zone test or triggering the remote repeatedly during this window will drain the cell faster than the trickle restores it, keeping the flag active.
Remote sends no signal after battery replacement
If the remote fails to arm or disarm the system immediately after fitting this cell, the most common cause is a voltage drop during button press — the cell has not yet reached operating voltage. Ni-MH cells shipped in storage state can measure 6.8V or lower off the shelf. Put the remote on charge via the panel receiver for a minimum of 12 hours, then retest. If the remote still does not respond after a full charge cycle, check that the cell connector is fully seated — an angled or half-inserted connector will read correct voltage on a meter but fail under the current draw of transmission.
