COMEN Star 5000 / Star 5000C / Star 5000E / C20 — 14.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYLB-1011)
This is a 14.8V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery for the COMEN Star 5000 series patient monitors and the C20. It replaces OEM part numbers HYLB-1011, 022-000052-00, JHT-99E-00, 022-000040-00, and JHOTA-99K-00. The Star 5000 series covers three monitor variants — the standard 5000, the 5000C, and the 5000E — all sharing the same battery bay and connector.
- Star 5000, 5000C, 5000E, and C20 compatibility: These four monitors share the same 14.8V battery architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell chemistry and pack configuration covers all four, which is why one replacement part number spans the entire range.

The Star 5000 runs a BMS verification routine at startup — cutting power during this sequence causes a false battery fault flag that persists until the next complete reboot cycle.
Why the Star 5000 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Star 5000's BMS compares the new cell's internal resistance profile against a threshold calibrated for the OEM cell chemistry. A fresh replacement cell — even at full charge — can read as marginal on the first startup because the BMS has not yet completed a learn cycle on the new pack. The alarm clears after one full charge-discharge cycle, which lets the BMS update its capacity estimate. Run the monitor on battery power until it reaches approximately 20% before recharging — this completes the learn cycle faster than repeated shallow discharges.
Charge indicator stuck below 100% after first charge on a new cell
On the first charge, the Star 5000's charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell, which can cause the indicator to plateau at 90–95% and stop climbing. This is not a fault — it is the charge controller applying a cautious termination threshold until the BMS completes initial calibration. Disconnect from AC power, allow the monitor to draw the pack down under normal use, then perform a second full charge. After this second cycle, the charge indicator should reach 100% and hold.
