Why the LTE 5150 BIOS flags a new battery as poor health immediately after swap

The LTE 5150 stores battery health data in EEPROM on the old cell. When a new cell goes in, that EEPROM data is gone and the BIOS has no reference point — so it defaults to reporting poor or unknown health. This is not a fault with the replacement cell. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge gives the BIOS enough data to rebuild its health estimate. After two or three full cycles, the health indicator normalises.

LTE 5150 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on the gauge

This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual capacity. The gauge inherited calibration data from the old, degraded battery, so the percentage shown no longer maps accurately to real cell voltage.
