Coolpad Surf WiFi Hotspot 4G / CP332A — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CPLD-429)
This is a 3.8V, 2500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Coolpad Surf WiFi Hotspot 4G and CP332A. It replaces OEM part CPLD-429 and slots directly into the battery compartment. Capacity is rated at 9.5Wh.
- Surf 4G and CP332A compatibility: Both models share the same PCB voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery covers both. The CPLD-429 part number spans the full run of these devices.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery on the Surf 4G with five simultaneous connected clients and a sustained LTE data session. The BMS held the discharge curve flat through the mid-range and triggered low-voltage cutoff cleanly at the correct threshold — no erratic shutdowns or false readings on the charge indicator.
- Ventilation during extended hotspot sessions: Keep the Surf 4G on a hard, open surface when running extended sessions. When connected clients are at the edge of WiFi range, the radio steps up to full output power. That heat transfers directly into the battery cavity. A blocked vent or pocket carry shortens cell life faster than discharge cycles alone.
Why the Surf 4G drops all connected clients mid-session
The Surf 4G runs two radios simultaneously — the LTE modem and the 2.4GHz WiFi chip. At maximum client load, the combined current draw creates brief voltage sag on the battery. If an aged or partially charged cell can't hold the rail above the BMS trip threshold, the device shuts down rather than browning out. A new cell with full charge restores the headroom the BMS needs. If drop-outs persist with a new battery, check the number of connected clients and move the device closer to the cellular tower to reduce modem transmit power.
Surf 4G won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the Surf 4G sat for more than a few weeks with a degraded original battery, the cell may have dropped below the minimum boot voltage — typically around 3.0V per cell. The device won't respond to the power button because the BMS blocks output to protect the cell. Plug in the charger and leave it for at least 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the charge LED doesn't illuminate at all, the original battery is likely below recovery threshold and needs replacement.
