Craftsman V20 Cordless Compact Blower — 20V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CMCB202)
This 20V 2000mAh (40Wh) Li-ion pack replaces the original battery on the Craftsman V20 Cordless Compact Blower and fits the CMCBL0100, CMCBL0100B, and V20 Cordless Brushless Axial Blower, plus 82 additional V20 platform models. It uses the same terminal layout and BMS handshake protocol as the factory pack. Drop voltage and capacity match the stock specification exactly.
- V20 platform compatibility: All models listed share a common 20V rail, identical slide-in connector, and the same BMS communication line — one battery design covers the full V20 tool lineup without adapters or firmware changes.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge-discharge cycle on a CMCBL0100 blower. The BMS correctly reported state of charge to the charger, cell balancing activated at the top of charge, and the overcurrent cutoff tripped cleanly at the rated threshold during simulated inrush load testing.
- Motor inrush break-in: For the first two cycles, run the blower at the low speed setting before switching to full throttle — this lets the BMS log the motor's inrush current signature and calibrate its overcurrent trip threshold before it sees a full-speed start surge.
BMS cutoff on full-throttle trigger pull in cold conditions
Li-ion internal resistance rises sharply below 5°C. On the V20 blower, a cold pack hit with a full-speed start pulls a brief inrush spike that can push the instantaneous current past the BMS overcurrent threshold, tripping a protective cutoff before the motor even reaches running speed. The pack shuts off instantly — it is not a dead battery. Warm the pack to above 10°C before use and the inrush current stays within BMS limits. If the cutoff trips repeatedly at room temperature, check the rail contacts for oxidation — increased contact resistance adds to the effective current spike the BMS sees.
Charger blinking red on a new pack that has been in storage
Craftsman V20 chargers reject packs whose cell voltage has dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell — a protection against charging deeply discharged lithium cells at full current. A replacement pack stored for several months in a warehouse can arrive at or near this threshold. The charger reads the low voltage and blinks red without initiating a charge cycle. Most V20 chargers include a recovery or conditioning mode — consult your charger manual for the button sequence, which typically holds the battery at a trickle current of around 100mA until cells recover to 3.0V per cell, after which normal charging begins.
