Craftsman Nextec Series — 12V Li-ion Replacement Battery (320.11221)
This is a 12V 2000mAh Li-ion battery for Craftsman Nextec cordless power tools. It fits the Nextec drill, impact driver, and saw platform — models 9-11221 and 11221. Voltage and capacity match the original pack spec directly.
- Nextec platform compatibility: All Nextec 12V tools share the same slide-in connector and BMS communication protocol. The drill, impact driver, and saw draw from the same voltage rail and use identical pack latch geometry, so one battery services the full line.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack on a Nextec drill under repeated load pulls. The BMS held steady through motor-start inrush and recovered cleanly after each discharge cycle without false overcurrent trips.
- Motor inrush break-in on first use: Run the tool at half load for two full charge-discharge cycles before heavy torque applications. This lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush current draw and set accurate overcurrent thresholds before you hit it with maximum load.
BMS cutoff on Nextec motor-start inrush surge
When you pull the trigger on a Nextec drill or saw, the motor draws a current spike well above its steady running load — this is inrush current. On a new or recently stored pack, the BMS may read that spike as an overcurrent fault and cut power instantly. The fix is to break the pack in gradually: two cycles at half load trains the BMS to distinguish normal inrush from a real fault. Once profiled, the BMS allows full trigger pulls without tripping.
Charger not recognising the pack after extended storage
Li-ion cells drop below charger acceptance voltage during long storage — typically under 2.5V per cell. The Nextec charger sees this and refuses to begin a charge cycle, often showing a blinking or solid red LED. Most chargers include a trickle or recovery mode that brings the pack back above the acceptance threshold. Insert the pack and leave it on the charger for 20–30 minutes without interruption; once cells reach approximately 3.0V per cell, the charger should switch to normal charge mode.
