Battery percentage jumping after a cell swap on the Zen Vision M
The Zen Vision M tracks charge level using voltage thresholds stored from the previous cell. After installing a new battery, the firmware's calibration data no longer matches the new cell's discharge curve. This causes the indicator to jump — showing 80%, then dropping to 40%, then climbing again. Run two full charge-to-cutoff cycles and the indicator stabilises as the firmware maps the new cell's actual voltage curve.
Playback cutting out before the battery indicator reads empty
The audio amplifier inside the Zen Vision M draws a short burst of higher current at the end of each track buffer refill. Near the bottom of the discharge curve, an aged or low-capacity cell cannot sustain the voltage through that burst, so the device shuts off even though the indicator still shows a small charge remaining. A fresh 2200mAh cell with a lower internal resistance handles those current spikes without the voltage sag. If cutouts persist after the swap, confirm the cell voltage reads above 3.5V under load before suspecting another cause.
