Custom Battery Pack 18650-5S2P — 18V Li-ion Replacement Battery
This is an 18V, 6800mAh Li-ion replacement pack built to the 5S2P cell configuration — five cells in series for voltage, two in parallel for capacity. It suits cordless tools, garden equipment, and power devices running on an 18V nominal rail. Verify your original pack carries the 18650-5S2P designation before ordering.
- 5S2P configuration explained: Five cells in series set the nominal voltage at 18V (full charge: ~21V, cutoff: ~15V). Two parallel strings double the capacity to 6800mAh without altering the voltage rail. Any device accepting that voltage range and the same physical connector will work with this cell arrangement.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on the bench. The integrated BMS triggered overcurrent protection correctly under load spike conditions and resumed normal operation once current returned within limits. Cell balance across both parallel strings stayed within 30mV after a full charge.
- First-cycle calibration on fuel-gauge devices: If your device displays a capacity indicator or fuel gauge, run one complete charge-discharge cycle immediately after installation. The gauge IC calibrates its state-of-charge algorithm against the new cells during that first cycle — skipping it causes inaccurate readings throughout the pack's life.
Pack running at lower voltage than rated on first use
Replacement 18650 packs ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, putting the 5S pack around 18–18.5V rather than the full-charge ceiling of ~21V. Some tools and chargers interpret this as a partially discharged or faulty pack and limit output accordingly. Charge the pack fully before first use. Once cells reach 4.2V each (21V across the series string), the device will recognise the pack as ready and deliver full rated performance.
Pack not accepted by device after swap
Some cordless tool platforms run a voltage-range handshake at power-on — if the pack voltage sits below the acceptance threshold, the device refuses to operate rather than displaying a low-battery indicator. This is a BMS or firmware gate, not a physical incompatibility. Charge the pack fully via a compatible 18V charger first, then reinsert. If the device still rejects the pack after a full charge, power-cycle the device with no pack installed for 10 seconds before reinserting at 21V.
