Why a full day of sun still leaves the battery undercharged

At that reduced current, the cell charges slowly and may not reach full capacity before the panel loses daylight. If the device consistently underperforms after dusk, check panel angle first — a direct-perpendicular position can recover most of the lost input current.
Battery drains overnight after a full day of apparent solar charging
This usually means the cell only received a partial charge during the day — not that it is faulty. If panel output stayed below the circuit's minimum threshold for part of the day, the cell may have reached only 60–70% state of charge by sunset. That partial charge depletes faster than expected through normal overnight draw. Verify the panel is receiving unobstructed direct sunlight and that the resting cell voltage reads at least 4.1V before dark.
