Device not completing boot sequence on new battery
The PTS System 2000 runs a startup self-test that checks cell voltage against stored BMS thresholds. A new Ni-MH cell sitting in warehouse storage can measure lower than those thresholds on arrival — not because it is defective, but because Ni-MH cells self-discharge during transit. If the measured voltage sits below the BMS acceptance window, the device stalls before completing boot. Charge the battery fully before the first power-on attempt, then allow the unit to complete its self-test uninterrupted. The BMS will log the cell on the first clean boot cycle.
Charge indicator not reaching 100% on first charge
On the first charge cycle, the PTS System 2000 charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell — this is intentional behaviour, not a fault. The indicator may stall below full and the device may report a partial charge. Run one complete charge-to-discharge-to-charge cycle before clinical use. By the second full cycle, the charge IC recalibrates its capacity estimate and the indicator reads correctly at 4.8V across all four cells.
