This happens because the fuel gauge IC on the Inspiron 3500 still references calibration data from the old, degraded cell. When CPU load and display backlight draw peak simultaneously, the new cell's actual voltage drops below the threshold the firmware expects at that state-of-charge. The system interprets this as a critical low and cuts power instantly. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate then uninterrupted charge cycles to let the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's voltage curve. After two cycles, the reported percentage and actual cutoff voltage should align at or below 10.8V nominal.
BIOS reports wrong Wh rating after fitting replacement cell
The Wh figure the BIOS displays is read from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's protection circuit, not calculated live from cell chemistry. If the EEPROM was written to a different rated capacity than 58.32Wh, the system information screen will show a mismatched number. This is a data field discrepancy, not a capacity fault — the cell still delivers its full charge regardless of what the BIOS reports. To confirm actual capacity, use HWiNFO64 or BatteryInfoView and check the charge/discharge cycle figures rather than the BIOS summary screen.
