Dell's BIOS reads health data from the EEPROM on the old cell and writes a cached profile it compares against the new one. Run one full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — after that cycle the BIOS recalibrates and the warning clears.
Laptop shutting down at 20–30% remaining after battery swap
The fuel gauge IC on the motherboard estimates remaining capacity using a model built around the old cell's voltage-discharge curve. A new cell has a different curve until several calibration cycles are completed, causing the IC to hit what it calculates as the voltage cliff while the cell still has real charge left. The result is an abrupt shutdown well above 0% shown. Run two to three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles to let the fuel gauge IC re-map against the new cell's actual curve. After calibration, the shutdown threshold drops back to the correct low-voltage cutoff near 3.0V per cell.
