BIOS reporting battery health as poor after replacement
The Dell BIOS stores learned capacity data in EEPROM tied to the original cell. When a new cell is installed, that stored data no longer matches the new pack's actual charge curve, so the BIOS flags health as poor or unknown. This is not a fault with the replacement cell — it is stale EEPROM data. Run a full discharge to hibernate-cutoff followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% to trigger the BIOS battery learn cycle. After one to two complete cycles, the health indicator should return to normal.
Precision 3571 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown
Under sustained CAD or rendering workloads, the CPU and discrete GPU draw sharp combined current spikes. If the cell's voltage drops below the BMS low-voltage cutoff under that load, the system shuts down even though the OS fuel gauge still shows 20–30% remaining. The fuel gauge IC reads voltage at rest, not under load — so the displayed percentage is accurate at idle but misleading under full draw. Confirm the cell voltage holds above 12.8V under load; if it collapses below that threshold, the BMS cutoff is functioning correctly and the displayed percentage is the calibration error to resolve.
