- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the XPS 11 platform. The BMS communicated correctly with the EC, charge current tapered normally at top-of-charge, and no error flags tripped during the test sequence.
- Post-install calibration on the XPS 11: After fitting, run the battery down until the laptop hibernates, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This forces the BIOS battery learn cycle to reset against the new cell and clears the inaccurate health warning that shows up after every cell swap on this platform.

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a cell fault. The XPS 11 runs a combined CPU and display load that draws enough current to cause cell voltage to sag below the BMS cutoff threshold before the fuel gauge reaches zero. The gauge IC still thinks 25% charge remains, but the cell can no longer sustain the voltage the platform needs. One full calibration cycle — discharge to hibernate cutoff, then a full uninterrupted charge — lets the fuel gauge IC relearn the actual voltage curve of the new cell.
BIOS showing wrong Wh rating after fitting a replacement cell
The Wh value the BIOS reports comes from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's controller — it reflects what was written at manufacture, not a live measurement. If the figure shown differs slightly from 39.96Wh, the cell itself is functioning normally. The discrepancy is an EEPROM rated value versus actual chemistry difference. No fix is needed, but running the battery learn cycle will update the fuel gauge's working model and typically brings the reported figure closer to the physical capacity.
