DIGITAL MATTER G52S / G52 Solar — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (GK2553301125)
This 3.7V, 800mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original GK2553301125 battery in the DIGITAL MATTER G52S and G52 Solar GPS navigators. Both units run the same voltage rail and connector, so one cell covers either model. Fit this when the original no longer holds a charge or powers the device through a full navigation session.
- G52S and G52 Solar compatibility: Both models use the same 3.7V Li-Polymer cell with an identical connector and BMS handshake. The G52 Solar charges the cell through its panel as well as via USB — this replacement handles both charge paths without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the cell through charge and discharge on the G52 platform. The BMS accepted the cell immediately, balance charging resolved within the first cycle, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff with no false shutdowns during GPS lock.
- Cold-start acquisition after fitting: After any full power interruption — including a battery swap — the G52S loses its last known position from volatile memory. Take the device outdoors after fitting and allow a full cold-start satellite acquisition before your first navigation use. First fix typically takes 5–10 minutes; subsequent warm starts are under a minute.
GPS accuracy dropping at the end of a charge cycle on the G52S
The G52S GPS receiver draws more power during active satellite tracking than in standby. As cell voltage drops toward the low end of the 3.7V nominal range, the firmware on some G52 units reduces receiver sensitivity to protect the battery. This can cause position drift or longer re-acquisition times before the low-battery indicator even appears on screen. Keeping the cell above 3.5V during navigation prevents the firmware from stepping down receiver power.
G52S shutting off without a low-battery warning
This happens when the fuel gauge is uncalibrated after a battery swap — the unit's charge indicator still shows bars while the actual cell voltage has already reached the BMS cutoff threshold. The fix is a full recalibration cycle: charge the device to 100%, then run it through a complete discharge under active GPS navigation until it shuts off, then charge fully again. After that cycle, the displayed charge level will track actual cell voltage accurately and the warning will fire before cutoff.
