The fuel gauge IC on these Doro handsets calibrates its coulomb counter against the cell's actual discharge curve on the first cycle — skipping this step leads to inaccurate percentage readings until recalibration occurs naturally.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the SmartEasy 7050 after a cell swap
This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's voltage-discharge curve. The new cell's voltage drops more steeply under modem or screen load than the old degraded cell did at the same reported percentage. The phone's power management circuit sees the voltage cliff and triggers an emergency shutdown before the gauge catches up. One full unconstrained discharge-charge cycle corrects the curve mapping and stops the premature shutdowns.
Phone not powering on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage. If the cell voltage drops below 2.5V, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent damage — the phone will show no response at all, not even a charging indicator. Connect the phone to a wall charger (not a USB port) and leave it untouched for 20–30 minutes. Most Doro SmartEasy BMS circuits will re-initialise once the cell recovers to approximately 3.0V, at which point the charging animation should appear.
