Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A fresh Ni-CD cell ships in a partially discharged state. The charge controller on CEAG fittings applies a trickle charge, but the cell may not reach full capacity within the first few hours after installation. Running a duration test too early draws the cell below its rated cut-off voltage before the test period completes. Allow at least 24 hours on charge before conducting any formal compliance or duration test — this gives the Ni-CD chemistry time to reach a stable 1.2V per cell under load.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
CEAG charge controllers measure incoming cell voltage before entering float mode. A cell that has self-discharged during storage may present a voltage too low for the controller to accept directly, keeping the fault or charge LED red. Force a manual test cycle immediately after installation — this draws the cell voltage down and back up, prompting the controller to re-initialise its charge acceptance logic. If the indicator does not move to green within four hours of that test cycle, check the cell connector is fully seated and measure voltage at the terminals: it should read above 4.5V on a healthy cell.
