Edan SE-3 — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HYLB-231)
This 14.4V, 5200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the HYLB-231 cell pack in the Edan SE-3 multi-parameter patient monitor. It fits both the SE-3 and SE3 unit variants. Capacity figure is taken directly from product data at 74.88Wh.
- SE-3 and SE3 platform fit: Both unit designations run the same 14.4V power rail and share the same HYLB-231 connector pinout and BMS handshake protocol. One SKU covers both.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through the SE-3 charge controller and confirmed the BMS negotiated charge termination correctly. The protection circuit tripped at the expected low-voltage cutoff under a simulated monitoring load across ECG, SpO2, and NIBP channels running simultaneously.
- Post-swap startup protocol: After fitting this battery, let the SE-3 complete its full power-on self-test without interrupting it. The device runs a BMS verification step at boot. Cutting power during that sequence flags a battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot — this is not a cell defect.
Why the SE-3 may not complete its boot sequence on a new battery
The SE-3 runs a startup self-test that includes a BMS state-of-charge check. A new cell that has not completed its first full charge-discharge cycle may report a state-of-charge value outside the device's expected window. The monitor interprets this as a battery fault and halts the boot sequence. Running one complete charge cycle before clinical use resolves this — the BMS recalibrates its capacity register and passes the threshold on the next boot.
Charge indicator stalls below 100% on the first charge
On the first charge, the SE-3 charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an unrecognised cell, which extends the absorption phase and can leave the indicator sitting at 95–98% for longer than expected. This is the charge controller being cautious, not a fault with the cell. Do not remove the battery during this phase — allow the cycle to terminate naturally. After one full cycle, the charge IC registers the cell's actual capacity and subsequent charges complete normally.
