This is a 3.7V, 1200mAh Li-ion cell for the Emporia AK-V170 and Life+ (Lifeplus) smartphones. It slots directly into the same battery bay as the original and runs off the same charge IC and fuel gauge. Capacity figures come from the product data — 1200mAh, 4.44Wh.
- AK-V170 and Life+ compatibility: Both the AK-V170 and the Lifeplus share the same PCB layout, battery connector pinout, and BMS handshake voltage. One cell serves both variants without any modification to the connector or thermal pad placement.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Life+ platform. The BMS accepted charge on the first cycle without triggering a protection cutoff, and the fuel gauge IC tracked state-of-charge through the full curve without dropping into lockout.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After fitting a new cell, disable fast charging for the first complete discharge-charge cycle. The fuel gauge IC on the Life+ is calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve — letting it run one full unconstrained cycle gives the coulomb counter accurate reference points before high-current charging begins.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Emporia Life+
This is a voltage cliff event, not a fuel gauge error. When the modem fires a transmission burst or the screen ramps brightness, current draw spikes sharply. An aged or freshly swapped cell with higher internal impedance cannot hold voltage under that load. The cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold in milliseconds — the phone shuts off even though the reported percentage looks safe. The fix is one full discharge-charge cycle so the fuel gauge IC maps the real voltage curve of the new cell and shifts the shutdown threshold to the correct point.
OS showing wrong battery percentage after cell swap
The Emporia Life+ uses a fuel gauge IC that builds its state-of-charge model from the previous cell's coulomb count history. Swap the cell and that model is immediately out of sync with the new cell's actual discharge curve. You'll see the percentage hold flat for long stretches then jump down suddenly — sometimes losing 15–20% in seconds. Run the phone from 100% down to auto-shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to full. After that single cycle the coulomb counter resets its reference and percentage tracking stabilises.
